Free XMind to Markdown converter
Open a .xmind file and export it as a Markdown outline. Its topics and notes come out nested as they are in the map.
How it works
- Choose Open file, or drop a .xmind file on the map area.
- Pick the sheet you want from the tabs, and change anything you like.
- Choose Export, then Markdown. The .md file saves under the map’s name.
Your file never leaves your browser
The file opens on your device and the Markdown is made there. Nothing is uploaded, and the file’s name and contents are not sent to us.
Take your maps to iPhone and iPad
MindmapPal for iPhone and iPad opens .xmind, OPML and Markdown files, works offline, and keeps every map as a file you own.

Questions
Do I need XMind to convert the file?
No. This page opens the .xmind file and writes the Markdown in your browser.
What does the Markdown keep?
The open sheet’s topics and notes, nested as they are in the map. Pictures, styles and relationships stay in the .xmind file.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The file is read on your device and never leaves your browser. Its name and contents are not sent to us.
What about a file with several sheets?
Each sheet has its own tab. Export Markdown once for each sheet you want.
Can I open a password-protected file?
Yes. Type the password when asked. The Markdown file has no password, and the tool says so before the download.
