Free mind map to Markdown converter

Open a .xmind or OPML file and export it as a Markdown outline of its topics and notes, ready for notes, docs or a README.

How it works

  1. Choose Open file, or drop a .xmind or OPML file on the map area.
  2. Check the map, and change any topic you like before you export.
  3. Choose Export, then Markdown. The .md file saves under the map’s name.

Your file never leaves your browser

The file opens on your device and the Markdown is made there too. Nothing is uploaded, and the file’s name and contents are not sent to us.

Take your maps to iPhone and iPad

MindmapPal for iPhone and iPad opens .xmind, OPML and Markdown files, works offline, and keeps every map as a file you own.

Questions

Which maps can I turn into Markdown?

A .xmind or OPML file you open here, or a map you make here from scratch.

What does the Markdown look like?

An outline of the map’s topics and notes, nested as they are in the map.

What does Markdown leave out?

Markdown keeps one sheet’s topics and notes. Pictures, styles, relationships and the rest stay in a .xmind export, and the tool says so before the download.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The file is read on your device and never leaves your browser. Its name and contents are not sent to us.

Can I open the Markdown again later?

Yes. Open the .md file here, or paste it on the Markdown to mind map page, and it becomes a map again.
