What happens when the same map is open in two tabs
The MindmapPal web editor saves one map per browser. Here is what "This map is open in another tab" means and how to choose which tab keeps saving.
Steps
- If you see "This map is open in another tab, so changes here aren’t being saved", decide which tab you want to keep.
- In that tab, choose Keep saving here.
- Confirm with Keep saving here in the question, if one appears.
Why this happens
The browser holds one saved map for the whole site, shared by every tab. The newest tab that takes the saved copy owns it. An older tab stops saving at once and shows: “This map is open in another tab, so changes here aren’t being saved.” Its status reads Not being saved.
Merely looking at a start card in a tab does not take the copy from the tab that is saving.
Take saving back
Choose Keep saving here in the notice. If the other tab has saved something since, the editor asks: “Keep saving here? This tab’s map replaces the save from another tab. You can’t get that save back.” Choose Keep saving here to go on.
The other tab then stops saving. Only one tab can save at a time.
Before you choose
- Export a .xmind file from the tab you do not keep, if its changes matter.
- If a stopped tab asks to start a new map, it warns: “This tab has stopped saving, so the map here will be lost.”
- Two tabs open on different maps overwrite each other’s saved copy, one after the other, because there is only one.
