Where your map is saved and how autosave works
How MindmapPal’s web editor keeps a copy of your map in this browser, what the save status means, what happens with several tabs, and when nothing is saved.
Steps
- Edit your map and watch the status beside the title, "Saving", then "Saved in this browser".
- Next visit, choose Continue your saved map on the start card to pick up where you stopped.
- To keep a map elsewhere, choose Export and save a .xmind file.
One map, in this browser
The editor keeps one copy of your map, in this browser on this device. It is not uploaded and not sent to an account. Clearing browsing data removes it, and another browser or device does not see it.
Starting a new map or opening a file replaces it, and the tool asks first: “This replaces the map saved in this browser. You can’t get it back.” Choose Start a new map, or Keep the saved map.
How autosave works
After you stop editing for a moment, the copy is saved. If you keep editing without a pause, it is still saved every couple of seconds. The status reads Saving, then Saved in this browser. Switching away from the tab saves at once.
When you return, the start card says “Your last map is saved in this browser” and offers Continue your saved map.
When a map is not saved
The status reads Not being saved when:
- the map is from a password-protected file (details);
- the browser cannot store anything, as in some private windows: “This browser can’t save here, so this map will be gone when you close the tab.”;
- the browser’s storage is full: “This browser couldn’t save the map. Its storage may be full.”;
- the map is too large or too deep (size limits);
- the map is open in another tab (several tabs).
In each case export a .xmind file to keep your work.
If the map tool stops
If the map engine stops, a card offers Restore last save when a saved copy exists. Without one it says: “There’s no saved copy, so this map is lost.”
