Opening files in the web tools
Which files the MindmapPal web tools open, how to open one with the button or by dropping it, and what to do when a file will not open.
Steps
- Open any tool page, such as the XMind viewer.
- Choose Open file, or drop a .xmind, Markdown or OPML file on the map area.
- If you already have a saved map, choose Open file again in the "Open this file?" question to replace it.
- If the file has a password, type it when asked.
Which files open
.xmind files, Markdown files (.md and .markdown) and OPML files (.opml). The file is read in your browser. It is not uploaded, and its name and contents are not sent to us.
You can also paste Markdown on the Markdown to mind map page. Headings and list items become topics.
It asks “Open this file?”
If this browser already holds a saved map, opening a file replaces it. The question says: “It replaces the map saved in this browser, unless the file is password-protected. You can’t get the saved map back.” Choose Open file to go on, or Keep the saved map to stop.
If a map is open and unsaved changes would be lost, the buttons are Open file and Keep this map.
When a file will not open
- “This file wasn’t opened. The tool opens .xmind, Markdown and OPML files.” The file is another kind. Check that its name ends in .xmind, .md, .markdown or .opml.
- “This file looks damaged, so it wasn’t opened.” The file is incomplete or broken. Ask for a new copy.
- “This file couldn’t be read. Your map is unchanged.” The browser could not read it. Try again, or copy the file to your device first.
- “This browser ran out of memory opening the file. Close other tabs and try again.” Close other tabs, then retry.
- “This browser’s settings stopped the file from opening. Reload the page and try again.” Reload the page.
