Logic chart: definition and example
A logic chart is a mind map structure in which the central topic sits at one side and every branch extends in a single direction, so the map reads from left to right or right to left.
What it means
In the usual balanced mind map, branches spread to both sides of the centre. In a logic chart they all go the same way. The content can be identical; only the layout changes.
When to use one
It suits content that is read in order or that has long text on each branch, like a plan, an agenda or meeting notes. It is also the layout closest to an outline.
How it differs from nearby terms
A tree chart goes down the page, an org chart goes down with boxes in levels, and a brace map joins the children with a brace. A logic chart uses plain lines to the side.
In MindmapPal
The MindmapPal app for iPhone and iPad switches a map between a balanced map, a logic chart and its other structures without retyping it. The web editor on this site does not switch structures, but several templates, like the weekly plan, open in this layout.
Example
A project plan placed on the left as the central topic, with branches to the right for Goals, Timeline, Budget and Risks, reads in the same order as a written plan.
